BT Shawlands CPSC

Your Committee

BT Shawlands is run entirely by volunteers. The committee plans and sets up shoots, ensures safety and fair play, looks after the traps and equipment, updates results and classifications, and keeps the ground in good order at the farm. If you can lend a hand before or after a shoot, it makes a big difference — thank you!

What we do

  • Design each layout and set safe target presentations for league and farmers shoots.
  • Stand setup and strike zone checks; signage and safe arcs, shot-fall awareness.
  • Safety cover on the day: referee/field officer duties and range control.
  • Trap work: loading clays, battery charging, re‑wiring/fuses, angles & speed checks, routine maintenance.
  • Scoring & results: scorecards, data entry, league tables, classifications.
  • Ground care: clearing pathways, trimming, litter picking, tidying after shoots.
  • General maintenance around the farm: repairs, storage, keeping the site tidy.
  • Risk management: basic safety briefings, PPE (eye/ear pro) reminders, incident logs.

How you can help

  • The committee handles most details relating to setup.
  • Please pick up cartridges at each stand and put them in the bins provided.
  • Magnetic pick up sticks are provided, particularly for semi-autos.
  • Report any faults: a trap misfiring, low battery, or unsafe target line.
  • Share ideas for course design or club improvements.

Safety & good practice

We follow nationally recognised safety guidance and keep a trained Safety Officer on duty when shooting is in progress. Everyone must wear eye and ear protection near stands, obey range control signals, and keep actions open until on the stand. If you’re new to scoring or refereeing, we’ll give you a short briefing before you start.
