Classification System

Our aim is simple: keep the competition friendly, fair and fun. Classifications group shooters of similar ability so everyone has close matches and something to aim for throughout the season.

How it works

At the start of each season, every member is placed into a league based on recent performance. This keeps the monthly league shoots competitive and enjoyable for all levels. Performance is tracked across the season using our points system, which fairly compares results from month to month.

Bands (AA, A, B, C)

We currently run four leagues: AA, A, B and C. These groups reflect typical performance over recent shoots. Don’t worry if you’re new or returning after a break — there’s a place for everyone.

What we look at

  • Recent monthly results at the club.
  • Consistency across different layouts and conditions.
  • Any known improvements (coaching, practice, change of kit).

Why it feels fair

  • You compete with shooters at a similar stage.
  • Close, friendly competition each month.
  • Clear targets to move up a league over time.

When classifications are set

Classifications are reviewed and set at the start of each season and are set to maintain a balance by allocating

The committee uses the most recent data available. If you’re new or your scores are limited, we use common‑sense judgement and after a few cards place you where you’ll have a good competition — and we’ll keep an eye on things as the season starts.

Moving between leagues

The best way to move up is simply to keep turning up and enjoying the shoots. The points system rewards strong cards, especially on tougher days. At the end of the season we review the tables and make any sensible adjustments for the following year.

New shooters & guests

New to the club? Welcome! We’ll place you in a sensible league based on your first cards and experience. Don’t worry — we’ll adjust if needed once a few shoots are under your belt. Guests are very welcome; guest scores don’t count towards the League standings, but they’re part of the day and the fun.

Juniors

We love seeing juniors out on the stands. Juniors are classified with the same spirit of fair, friendly competition, with supervision and safety as the top priority. If you have a junior interested in joining, speak to the team on a shoot day and we’ll help get started.

Questions?

We try to keep the system simple and transparent. If anything doesn’t look right, or you have a suggestion, grab a committee member on shoot day or email committee@btshawlandscpsc.co.uk.
